City seeker
Choose an eclipse. The list shows every known city and town the central shadow passes over, one card per place. You can also type a place or a country in the eclipse field, such as Delft or the Netherlands: the eclipses visible there come first, with how much of the Sun is covered.
Press Compare on up to six places to see them side by side.
Average cloud cover: monthly mean 2001–2020, adjusted to the date and local solar hour. Temperature and humidity: monthly mean 2001–2025, worked out for the date and the hour of the eclipse, without the cooling the eclipse itself brings. Not a forecast.
Score: the cloud-free part of the sky (100 minus the average cloud cover), times the height of the Sun up to 25°, times the duration (counting lightly) and an airport within 400 km (counting lightly). The best place of this eclipse gets 100. An average of 20% cloud is not an 80% chance of a clear sky, and the clouds come from a grid of about 110 km: a difference of a few points says little. The score is a guide, not a chance.
